I've been quiet for a while but I'm back and excited to announce my newest books—four of them—which launched in January 2025!
First, there's The Crane and the Keeper, published by Candlewick with Smithsonian Kids. I was excited (and, honestly, a bit nervous!) when Smithsonian approached me to write the heartwarming and complex (internet-viral!) story of an endangered white-naped crane named Walnut who was imprinted on humans and chose her patient and creative keeper at The Smithsonian Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (SZCBI), Chris Crowe, as her mate.
Working with Chris and a whole team at Smithsonian, and focusing on the important wildlife conservation message of the the story, made it such a fulfilling experience. And I'm thrilled with how the book turned out (School Library Journal liked it, too, with a starred review, and Junior Library Guild chose it as a 2025 selection!).

I was also excited when Cherry Lake Publishing asked me to choose four Jewish changemakers to write about in four new titles for their My Itty Bitty Bios early readers series. I've written numerous titles for this school/library series, and love writing them. The hardest part was choosing which four people to write about!
I ended up choosing a group of Jewish changemakers from different fields of influence: Anne Frank (the famous diarist, about whom I also wrote in my book Miep and the Most Famous Diary), Jonas Salk (discoverer/gifter of the polio vaccine), Bella Abzug (political changemaker), and Irving Berlin (beloved composer).
