Meeg's 2022 Book Cover Reveals!

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

I'm kvelling over the covers of my two new releases, coming in April—take a look!

They're here! The covers of my two nonfiction picture books coming out in April are finalized and ready to be seen. Both of these books are stories our whole book teams have put heart and soul into and the covers give you a glimpse of that. Wonderful illustrators, editors, and art directors all have their hands on these pages, as with every labor of love that is a picture book.

So, without further ado, let's take a look!

Make Way for Animals!

First, there's the cover for Make Way for Animals!: A World of Wildlife Crossings, illustrated by Bao Luu. The book releases April 5th from Lerner/Millbrook. Here's the synopsis:

Around the world, city highways and country roads have cut through natural spaces. Wild animals are blocked from the resources they need to survive, or must make dangerous crossings across busy roads to get to them. Fortunately, solving this problem has inspired some creative solutions!

Take a tour of wildlife crossings across the globe, from grassy badger bridges to underpasses for elephants. Discover how these inventive pathways have saved both animal and human lives and helped preserve ecosystems.

This book has been a long time coming, one I worked on even before my other book on this theme, Cougar Crossing: How Hollywood's Celebrity Cougar Helped Build a Bridge for City Wildlife. I'm thrilled and grateful that I will now have both of these beautiful books as companions to share with kids—because I know from experience that kids are fascinated by animal crossings!

Our team went round and round about which of the amazing wildlife crossings from this book to highlight on the cover. The pipeline for penguins, crossings for crabs, underpass for elephants...? You'll see below which one we chose, but know that there are many more fabulous images like this one, of an array of animals, inside!

And...here's the cover!!

It just makes me smile! I love Bao's style, and I know this cover will make kids want to find out more about what's inside.

So Much More To Helen!

Second, there's the cover for So Much More To Helen!: The Passions and Pursuits of Helen Keller, illustrated by Caroline Bonne-Müller. This book releases April 15th from Sleeping Bear Press.

This cover was first officially revealed, with the publisher's blessing, by the fabulous Bookstagram teacher mom @ihaveabookforthat here. She got lots of anticipatory excitement from Helen Keller lovers. I really hope this book offers some fresh perspective about this amazing woman, and even about how we think of ourselves. Here's the synopsis from the book jacket:

Most folks know the famous story of Helen Keller—a DeafBlind girl who learned to understand sign language at the family water pump. But what do you really know about her? Did you know she was an activist, a rebel, a writer, a performer, a romantic?

There is so much more to Helen than most people learn in school. Read ahead as the story of Helen Keller’s passionate, boundless life unfolds—reminding us that she was, as we all are, many things.

And....here's the cover!!

Isn't it delightful?! Notice there are several details hidden in this image that reveal those passions and pursuits mentioned in the book's subtitle.

I hope you've enjoyed these covers—and if you're intrigued about these books, I hope you will pre-order them when I launch my special pre-order campaign with my new indie bookstore partner in coming weeks, so you can get them into your young readers' hands as soon as possible!

Stay tuned for details and thanks for reading!
